Alexander Hansebout is a Partner at ALTIUS in Brussels, and was admitted to the Brussels Bar in 2001. Specialising in international dispute resolution and private international law, he brings extensive expertise to complex disputes encompassing commercial and contractual matters, liability, insurance and insolvency-related issues. Alexander also has in-depth knowledge of distribution, agency, franchising and brokerage agreements in their respective international contexts.In terms of his professional experience, Alexander has been involved in arbitrations under the ICC, CEPANI, NAI, SCC, WIPO, ICDR and UNCITRAL Rules as well as in ad hoc arbitration, in addition to numerous international proceedings in the Belgian and EU courts. He has engaged in enforcement (including against sovereigns) and setting aside proceedings as well as other arbitration-related proceedings.
Alexander’s commitment to the field of arbitration is evident through various roles, including being a member of the editorial board of b-Arbitra, and a founding member of the Belgian Chapter of the Club Español del Arbitraje. He participated in the 2022 SCC/SAA Diploma Course on International Arbitration for Foreign Arbitrators and regularly publishes and speaks on arbitration-related topics.
Alexander served on the Council of the Brussels Bar (Dutch language section) from 2019 to 2022 and is heavily involved in the Belgian Franchise Federation.
A Belgian national, Alexander holds an MSc in International Business from Aston Business School (UK), a Lic. Juris from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) and a Cand. Juris from Université de Namur (Belgium). As a student, he participated in an International Exchange Programme at the University of Stellenbosch (South Africa).
