Gabriele Ruscalla brings over twelve years of experience in international arbitration, representing and advising corporations, states and state-owned entities from Europe, the Middle East, the Gulf countries, and Africa in both investor-State and commercial arbitrations.He assists clients in arbitrations involving distribution, construction, energy, corporate law (M&A), and international trade (sales and purchases, bank guarantees) matters. He is also specialized in investment protection, public international law, and issues related to economic sanctions.
Gabriele has extensive experience in handling complex and technical disputes in both civil law and common law systems. He has participated in proceedings governed by the major arbitration rules, including the ICC, LCIA, SIAC, Swiss Arbitration Centre, AFA, CCJA, ICSID, CEPANI, and UNCITRAL.
In addition, Gabriele manages transnational litigation matters related to the annulment, and recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards before national courts, and sits as an arbitrator in international commercial disputes.
Prior to returning to private practice in 2021, Gabriele spent five years as Counsel at the ICC International Court of Arbitration, where he managed a team administering over 400 arbitrations, and gained extensive expertise in the ICC Rules and practices, as well as in other arbitration rules.
Earlier on in his career, he worked in the International Arbitration Group of a global law firm in Paris.
Gabriele is Adjunct Professor of Business and Human Rights at IE Law School (Madrid) and teaches International Commercial and Investment Arbitration as Lecturer at the Catholic University of Lille (Paris Campus). He frequently publishes articles and notes on, and regularly speaks at conferences about international arbitration-related subjects.
He is admitted to the Paris Bar (Avocat à la Cour) and registered as Foreign Lawyer to the Brussels Bar.
He speaks and works in English, French and Italian.
