Jeff Keustermans works in the area of commercial law, with a particular focus on intellectual property rights, ICT law and media and entertainment law. He is a member of the New York and Brussel bars.His broad practice and expertise cover national and international business litigation as well as complex litigation in the area of copyright, patents, design and model rights, trademarks, information technology, e-commerce and privacy protection. He also has extensive experience in drafting and negotiating agreements, and in proactively advising creative and inventive clients in relation to the protection of their creations.
His clients include television stations, electronics, IT and telecommunication companies, universities (and their spin-offs), as well as fashion houses, publishers and artists. He has been appointed as an arbitrator in important arbitrations before the I.C.C. and CEPINA, the Belgian arbitration institute.
Jeff has published numerous books and articles, in the field of Belgian and European intellectual property law and ICT law, and is regularly invited to speak at seminars and as a guest lecturer at universities in Belgium and abroad.
Jeff studied law in Antwerp, Leuven and obtained an LL.M. at the University of California, Los Angeles (1985). He began his career as a lawyer with Cleary Gottlieb in New York City (1985-1986) and Brussels (1987-1988) and served as legal advisor to the Minister of Finance of Belgium (1986-1987). He started his own law practice (1988-2000) and became a partner with Schuermans & Schuermans (2001-2007). He was a founding partner of & DE BANDT in November 2007.
