The Unusual Suspects

Arbitration institutions: Activists or gendarmes?

In the context of the London International Disputes Week you’re cordially invited to a panel discussion and cocktail reception, jointly organised by CEPANI (the Belgian Centre for Arbitration and Mediation), AFA (French Association for Arbitration), VIAC (Vienna International Arbitral Centre) and NAI(Netherlands Arbitration Institute).

What

A lively debate that focuses on the role of arbitral institutions and if they should focus on welfare or order. The discussion's subjects will include:

  • The extent to which an arbitral institution should be proactive in finding amicable solutions to a conflict;

  • Whether institutions should provide rules of good conduct and ethical charts for arbitrators;

  • Whether they need to ensure the latter are complied with.

For who

Everyone who is active or interested in (international) arbitration
