Professional experience

An Vermeersch is a legal expert specialising in sports law and European law, with a strong focus on governance, integrity, and dispute resolution in sport. She is a visiting professor of sports law at Ghent University and also teaches European law at Ghent University College.
An combines academic work with practical experience as an arbitrator at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and as a disciplinary judge at the Flemish Sports Tribunal (Integrity chamber). Previously, she also served at the national level as an arbitrator at the Belgian Court of Arbitration for Sport (BAS) and as a disciplinary judge in doping-related cases.
She has advised governments and international bodies on ethics, EU sports policy, and anti-doping, and has played an active role in sport governance reform. She is co-founder of the Sport&EU Association and serves on the editorial boards of several sports law journals. Her work bridges academia and practice, with a particular interest in the intersection between European regulation and international sport.
