Françoise Lewalle holds a master’s degree in law of the Université de Liège and took the oath at the Bar in October 1991. After more than 15 years as advisor and litigator for commercial and labour law cases, she was appointed as a judge at the Brussels Commercial Court in 2007 and decided cases under various branches of business law: IP disputes, insurance and bank transactions, international contracts for the sale of goods, franchise agreements, competition and liability.When she moved to Asia, Françoise completed a training in international arbitration at the National University of Singapore and in international commercial mediation. She worked as legal counsel for 4 years in Singapore with the Singapore International Arbitration Chamber (SIAC)and the Singapore International Mediation Chamber (SIMC).
Pursuing her career as a lawyer in South Korea, she collaborated more than 5 years with Kim & Chang, one of the most prestigious business law firms in Seoul, assisting international and Korean clients on commercial and labour law issues as well as in arbitration and mediation.
Back in Belgium in 2021, she completed the 2-year inter-university program on mediation of the universities St Louis-UCL-Namur and is an independent certified mediator in civil, commercial and social matters in Belgium
and Luxembourg. She is a partner at Alterys, a business law firm in Brussels with strong expertise in mediation. She mediates and co-mediates construction, competition law, international contracts and associative law disputes. She organises seminars and workshops for international civil servants, general counsel and lawyers together with BMediation.
Françoise is also a Fellow Arbitrator of the Charter Institute of Arbitration (FCIarb) and teaches alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and arbitration to young lawyers as part of their entrance bar exam (CAPA) at the Brussels Bar.
