Professional experience
Bernard Tilleman (°1965), Master of Law KUleuven (magna cum laude 1988), BAEF-Fellow LLM Harvard Law School (1989), Stipendiat DAAD Juristen Austausch (1990), Phd of Law (1996, Aspirant FWO and subsequenty post-doc FWO) is a Full Professor at KU Leuven. He is the co-director of the Centre of Methodology of Law (together with Bert Demarsin) and Center of Contract Law (together with Alain Laurent Verbeke) (co)supervising 19 ongoing Phd, 9 of them funded by FWO and one project funded by Flemish Government. He has been the (co)supervisor of 32 Phd that have been successfully defended. 9 of these Phd’s were funded by FWO. He was the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Criminology of the KU Leuven (2012-2020) and is currently Pro-Dean and in this capacity member of the Faculty Board and is also member of the Faculty Nomination Board. He was a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Lille II (Introduction au Droit Belge (1998-2003)), Université de Liège (Advanced Contract Law (1999-2003) and Radboudt University in Nijmegen (TPR Wisselleerstoel (2000)).He has written a treatise on sales law (2022 (legal effects of the sales contract) 2024 (formation of the sales contracts) in Beginselen van Belgisch Privaatrecht, on agency and settlement agreements in APR, on the board of directors and conflicts within corporation and legal proceedings against corporations.

Prior to joining KU Leuven, he worked at the Secretariat of the Council of Ministers at the Office of the Prime Minister (1990-1991) and at the Brussels office of the law firm Cleary-Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton (1991-1993). He was admitted to the New York Bar in 1991. He is currently member of the Nomination Board of the High Council of Judiciary, and is president one the Examination Committees of the Accountants. In the past he has been the president of the Nomination Committee for Notary Public
