Professional experience

Pascal Hollander is a founding partner of the Brussels law firm Hanotiau & van den Berg. Besides his activities as counsel (both in arbitration and in court proceedings), he has built for the last 20 years a substantial practice as arbitrator in international arbitration proceedings under various sets of arbitration rules (ICC, ICSID, PCA, SCC, SAC (Swiss Chambers), WIPO, UNCITRAL, CEPANI, ad hoc …) and various substantive laws (civil and common law). He has acted as arbitrator in around 150 international cases, including more than 70 cases as president of the tribunal or sole arbitrator. He was one of the very first emergency arbitrators appointed by the ICC and the very first one appointed under the Swiss Rules of International Arbitration. He has also acted as mediator in international disputes.

He is ranked by Chambers (2023) as one of the Most-In-Demand Arbitrators in Europe, sources reporting that he "has a really nice balance for an arbitrator of being smart and really getting it, and being extremely measured and fair" and praising his "good case management style", while sources quoted by Who’s Who Legal Arbitration (2023) describe him as “one of the top names in the field" and as being “first rate for arbitration".

Pascal Hollander lectures on arbitration law at the University of Brussels (ULB) and is the author of numerous publications in the fields of arbitration and of commercial distribution. He is a past Vice-Chair of the IBA Arbitration Committee, a past Chair of its Subcommittee on Enforcement and Recognition of Arbitral Awards. He is a past member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR and of its Task Forces on Emergency Arbitration and on Probative Value of Witness Evidence. He is also an honorary member of the Board of directors of CEPANI, the Belgian Centre for Arbitration and Mediation.
