On 9 October 2025, White & Case Brussels hosted CEPANI40’s first event of the academic year, delving into the “Insights from the 2025 White & Case and Queen Mary University of London International Arbitration Survey”.
The speakers discussed the results of the Survey’s sixth edition titled “The Path Forward: Realities and Opportunities in Arbitration” (available here). This edition involved the largest number of respondents to date (2,402 questionnaire responses received and 117 interviews conducted). Views were sought from a diverse pool of participants, including in-house counsel from both public and private sectors, arbitrators, private practitioners, representatives of arbitral institutions and interest groups, academics, tribunal secretaries, experts and third-party funders. The Survey provides valuable empirical insights into the views and expectations of arbitration’s users and delves into pivotal issues shaping the future of international arbitration.
The discussions, moderated by Alexandre Hublet (Local Partner at White & Case Brussels), were led by:
Olivier Caprasse, Professor at ULiège and ULB and Arbitrator;
Clare Connellan, Partner at White & Case London; and
Maud Piers, Professor at UGhent and Arbitrator.
The event was targeted at understanding the evolving landscape of international arbitration and focused on the following key topics:
users’ preferences with regards to methods of resolving international disputes, arbitral seats and sets of arbitration rules;
award enforcement challenges and trends;
efficiency in arbitration; and
the integration of AI in arbitration.
